Team Iloilo cage tryouts on

PANAY Sports Inc. (PSI), the newest sports group created by sports-minded Ilonggos, is calling on local basketball talents to join the tryouts from April 1 to 2 to compete in the country's newest and prestigious national cage league this year.

The tryouts will be conducted at the Iloilo Sports Complex covered gym from 1 to 4 p.m., a press release from PSI said.

PSI chairman Robert Uy said they organized the tryouts to give local hopefuls the opportunity to play and represent Iloilo in the upcoming National Basketball Conference (NBC).

Uy said 12 players would be chosen to represent the Province of Iloilo in the six-month cage tournament from May to October.

He added that the Iloilo team would get to test their mettle in a pre-season event on May 2 to 6 in Iloilo City.

Called the Iloilo Basketball League (IBL)-NBC Invitational Basketball Tournament 1st Conference, teams from Baguio, Laguna, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro, are expected to participate.

Meanwhile, the NBC national tournament will feature eight squads from all over the country.

Teams from Marikina, Baguio, Laguna, and Pampanga will compose the Northern division. Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and either Bacolod or Davao will comprise the Southern group.

The teams will be playing a familiar format, that of the defunct Metropolitan Basketball League's home and away system, where basketball crazy fans can watch games at their own backyard.

At least two home games will be played by each squad every month.

Furthermore, Uy said they would be supporting the 12 hopefuls throughout the IBL-NBC invitational tournament and during the national event.

PSI is composed of noted local sports personalities like Prisco Perez, vice-chair; Ticel Corp.'s Alberto "Tito" Lopez, president; Vulcan's Giovanni Espinosa, vice-president; Valiant Bank's Ian Pama, treasurer; and Nelson Divinagracia, secretary.

The Board of Directors is comprised of Alfie Lagman, Bayani Ladrido, Molet Medez and Bonito Robiso.
