Peace Philharmonic Philippines in a season of musical enchantments
SM City Iloilo once again invites everyone to another musical treat, this time from one of Visayas' finest cultural institutions, the Peace Philharmonic Philippines.
This coming Sunday, April 4, 26 of the seasoned Cebu-based chamber players will serenade Iloilo's musical aficionados in their last leg of their Visayas and Mindanao tour of the Season of Musical Enchantments.
This concert will be held at SM City's Activity Center at 4 p.m.
The show, which is expected to draw a huge audience will feature international and local pieces.
Where the music came
A product of the 10-year orchestra development program initiated by the
Salvador and Pilar Sala Foundation, Inc. (SPSFI), the Peace Philharmonic Philippines continues to fulfill its unique role in the cultural life of Cebu City and its neighboring provinces.
Being the only existing cultural institution dedicated to the training and performance of high level art-music, the PPP has been enriching the socio-cultural make up of the community supporting its existence.
To date, the PPP has trained over a hundred musicians through its scholarship programs and these artists are now making their contributions both in the local community and in the national sphere as music educators, orchestra players, chamber musicians, choir directors, band leaders, recording artists, music arrangers and composers, entertainers, and cultural ambassador. A number of them have achieved exceptional level of artistic excellence as winners in the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (Namcya), and some have represented the country in the international music festivals.
Through its annual PPP Chamber Classics Series, the PPP continues in its mission to bring the best examples of art-music, both from the local and international sphere, to the local community. This concert series principally showcases PPP's most advanced performing group, the PPP Chamber Players, as orchestra players and soloists. Through these live performances of Cebu's very own home-grown musical artists, the treasures of humanity's musical heritage continue to be a living part of the cultural experience of its citizens.
At present, under the PPP Foundation, Inc. (PPPFI), the organization supports its operations though the teaching work of its young artists who give instruction to those who wish to learn a musical instrument. This is done under the PPP Music Extension Program. There are close to a hundred students enrolled in these classes, with ages ranging from three to 45, studying under PPP music instructions trained in the internationally-recognized Suzuki Method of instrument instruction. Another source of PPP's operational income is through their orchestral or chamber music performances for special occasions. A significant help from the culturally enlightened members of the community also comes by way of sponsorships and subscriptions to the PPP Chamber Classics Series.
