Poe endorses Facultad as official bet for mayor
VICE Mayor Victor Facultad's bid as the opposition mayoral candidate in Iloilo City was sealed Friday night after he was endorsed by presidential candidate Fernando Poe Jr., leaving Councilor Ma. Rita Bascos-Sarabia in the dark.
Just before the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino's (KNP) grand rally at Freedom Grandstand ended before 11 p.m. Saturday night, Poe called on Facultad to introduce his partymates, including vice mayoral candidate Councilor Joshua Alim, and, after that, the actor endorsed them by raising their hands together.
Sarabia, who was also present, was not endorsed by Poe, although Sen. Aquilino Pimentel--in his speech--earlier mentioned her and Facultad as the opposition's mayoral candidates in Iloilo City.
Sarabia could not be reached for comment after last night's rally.
Earlier, Sarabia, the mayoral candidate of Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP), called Facultad a "political butterfly" for claiming that he already replaced Sarabia as the official candidate of the Poe camp.
It was PMP president Horacio "Boy" Morales who declared her as Poe's official mayoral candidate, she had said, adding that her endorsement is supported by evidence, a certificate of nomination.
Among the streamers displayed at the Freedom Grandstand, the most prominent are those of Facultad and Alim, each of them featured with Poe raising their hands.
Sarabia also has streamers bearing the phrase, "Sarabia na Poe."
Lawyer Romeo Gerochi, who is running for congressman, was also at the rally.
Before their grand rally in Iloilo City, Poe and his partymates held sorties in the towns of Sara and Janiuay and the city of Passi.
Legarda arrived at the Freedom Grandstand a little past 10 p.m. while Poe, at around 10:30 p.m. NLG
