Students bring complaints v. 3 MassCom professors to CHR
* Borja, Diamante and Morga no-show at PTA meeting
GRADUATING broadcasting students of West Visayas State University-College of Mass Communications (WVSU-CMC) lodged their complaint against their three professors, including dean Dr. Francisa Borja, before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) regional office in Iloilo City.
The CHR complaint is a prelude of the cases they would file against Borja, Dr. Alexis Diamante and Prof. Cynthia Morga before the Office of the Ombudsman for illegal collection of fees and harassment.
Sun.Star has been trying to get the side of the CMC professors since Monday last week but they could not be reached until Sunday.
Even Borja could not be contacted at the CMC office.
The complainants include Vanessa Estrella and her classmates who have initially submitted a petition to WVSU president Dr. Lourdes Arañador.
Estrella earlier said Arañador was surprised when they informed her that their three professors have been collecting fees such as the P100 defense fee without an approval from her office.
Their group had also claimed of being harassed by the three especially Morga whom they said caused them "emotional and psychological torture" with her verbal abuses.
Earlier, Estrella said she and her thesis partner Wenelyn Gasapo suffered much when Morga claimed to have "lost" all their three thesis revisions a day before their graduation rites.
Both of them continue to seek Arañador's assistance to enable them to submit their final draft and eventually their bound thesis.
Arañador had already formed an investigating body headed by Dr. Eda Ticao, vice president for academic affairs, to look into the students' complaints.
No-show
Meanwhile, the three professors failed to show up during Sunday afternoon's CMC Parents-Teachers Association General Assembly at the audio-visual room where the complaints of the students were supposed to be tackled.
Arañador, along with another CMC professor, Dr. Evelyn Tumambo, attended the meeting, presided by PTA president Ruben Recila.
A broadcasting alumni told Sun.Star the parents were disappointed over the three professors failure to come to the meeting. She said Arañador justified their absence by saying, "It's Sunday."
Nevertheless, Estrella as well as alumni media practitioners Novie Guazo of Bombo Radyo Iloilo and Nereo Lujan spoke during the meeting.
Lujan read the alumni's position paper. NLG
