Actual canvass to start Tuesday: Drilon
By Jennifer Depakakibo

THE actual canvassing of votes for the national level will be held in Congress Tuesday, said Senate Pres. Franklin Drilon.

Over 150 COCs out of 177 are already with the Senate. Presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye also assured the opposition that 14 lawmakers from Senate and the House of Representatives would ensure that the canvassing would be credible.

Bunye made the statement following reports that there are efforts to railroad the canvassing and speed up the proclamation of President Arroyo.

Meanwhile, Drilon denied allegations of the presence of fake election returns, adding that ballot boxes were opened in full view of the public. He said the allegations are part of an attempt to discredit the canvassing of votes.

While Malacañang is confident that the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC) will complete the canvassing of votes for the presidency and vice presidency before the proclamation on June 30. (With Sunnex Luzon)
