Wednesday, August 04, 2004 P40 taxi flagdown for Manila only: LTFRB By Jay Dooma Balnig
LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 6 said that the new P40 flagdown rate for taxicabs is only for Metro Manila, and not applicable in Iloilo City and the rest of Western Visayas.
Director Porfirio Clavel said officers of Taxi Operators Association of Iloilo on Tuesday met him but they did not discuss the implementation of the fare increase.
Lawyer Joseph Go led the taxi operators.
Clavel said the meeting was arranged by Go after the implementation of the fare increase for buses and jeepneys.
He clarified the fare increase is only applicable to National Capital Region whose taxi operators filed a petition.
In Western Visayas, no petition for taxi fare increase was filed before his office, he said.
At present, the flagdown rate for taxicabs is P25. An additional P2 is charged for every succeeding kilometer.
The fare rate for jeepneys is P5.50 for the first five kilometers. Passengers pay P.70 for every succeeding kilometer.
Students, senior citizens and disabled pay P4.40, but only P.56 centavos for every succeeding kilometer.
