Monday, August 30, 2004 Miagao groups join hands to uplift town
FOR a community to progress there should be a collective effort among all sectors of the society.
The Rotary Club (RC) of Miagao, the Parent-Teachers and Community Association (PTCA), the Miagao East Central Elementary School and the Municipality of Miagao adhere to this belief as they joined hands to conduct several community projects.
Clean water
On August 5, the Miagao Clean Water project in the Miagao Central Elementary School was blessed. Rotary International District 3850 Governor Victoria Garcia led the rites.
The project was a joint effort of the Rotary Club of Miagao, Gundaker Foundation, Rotary Club of Media Foundation, Pennsylvania, USA, the Miagao Central Elementary School PTCA and the Municipality of Miagao.
The project aims to provide clean water to more than 2,225 school children of Miagao Central Elementary School.
It was Primitivo Gayanilo, school's principal, based from a suggestion from Prof. Pet Fernandez, who approached the Rotary Club of Miagao to seek assistance in the provision of a potable water supply system.
RC's IPP Dr. Arnold Naldoza mobilized the club starting with the preparation of the project's data form, its design and cost estimates and contracted its partner club under the World Community Service Projects Exchange Program.
The Gundaker Foundation, through the Rotary Club of Media Pennsylvania, U.S.A. extended an assistance of $1,480 to RC Miagao. It was channeled through Maria Luzzi of the Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. Luzzi is a former professor of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas.
Joaquin M. Tesoro, president of RC Miagao, signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Miagao Mayor Gerardo Flores, who provided technical and material assistance to speed up the completion of the project. Lawyer Orlando S. Paulma, Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council) member and PCTA president of Miagao Central School provided support and additional materials. This project now ensures sufficient and safe water supply especially during the dry season.
