Villagers threaten to rally to ensure poultry closure
By Jay Dooma Balnig

SHOULD the city government refuse to implement the closure order of Paciano Carton's poultry area, local folks are threatening to hold a rally in front of City Hall Monday.

Council member Julie Pasquin of Barangay Punong claimed that local folks are determined to carry placards calling for the fair implementation of the law under Mayor Jerry Treñas's administration.

On August 17, the City Legal Office gave Carton a grace period of 10 days despite a cease-and-desist order (CDO) issued to him to refrain from operating his poultry area.

Treñas said the 10-day period ended Friday midnight.

While the city mayor assured Barangay Punong folks of the proper implementation of the closure Monday, still, the residents of Punong Lapuz are preparing for the worst.

They say that the rally is in protest against City Health Officer Dr. Urminico Baronda for not acting on the poultry's operation despite the health hazard it poses.

It was learned that Carton is raising around 400 heads of Kabir chicken at the third floor of his boarding house, which caused the foul smell and mess in the area.

The Boarding House Commission, led by Rosalind Poral conducted a site inspection and found that the boarding house does not have necessary documents. Poral also said that it is very dirty and unlivable and did not pass the standards of the commission.
