Task Force Visayas to step up drive vs illegal drugs By Jennifer M. Depakakibo
THE Task Force Visayas will intensify its campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region, said Task force head Chief Supt. Rolando Garcia.
We are an anti-crime body but our focus now is on illegal drugs because it is already a widespread problem, he said.
Garcia, who was in Iloilo City Thursday, said the Task Force will coordinate with local government officials in inspecting warehouses and leased properties which could be hiding shabu laboratories.
"I ask our policemen to come during building inspections to see the indicators for drug labs in an area," he said. "(This is because) building inspectors may not suspect or may not know some chemicals used in shabu laboratories."
Chief Supt. George Aliño, police regional director, earlier said the supply of shabu in Western Visayas has dwindled following the series of raids of the shabu laboratories in Cebu and in Metro Manila.
Aliño pointed out it is possible that illegal drug operators may find their way in Region 6 to set up shabu laboratories.
