Betans gather in Iloilo on Jan. 2
THE Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International, a fraternity of engineering students, will gather for the 1st Visayas Betans Symposium at the CPU Educational Media Center Conference Hall on January 2, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Phi Beta Epsilon was organized in 1947 at Central Philippine University by Engineer Celestino Javier.
Chapters were later established in the University of Iloilo, (UI), Western Institute of Technology (WIT), and University of San Agustin (USA).
Throughout the years, several Betans migrated to other countries but continued to keep in touch with each other and their brethren in the Philippines.
The advent of global communications via the internet prompted them to organize the Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International (PBEFI). Led by its charter president, Engr. Julito "Tristan" Ganchero, PBEFI has officers and members in the USA, Canda, Australia, Asia, and in the Philippines.
Representatives of the Betans International from the United States and Canada will grace the occasion.
Alumni Betans and resident members and past and present fraternity sweethearts and advisers are invited.
Projects are underway to help resident members in four Iloilo schools, including internet facilities, school supplies, textbooks, and scholarships. More information on PBEFI programs and projects can be accessed at www.betans.com
