Leon resident shot dead, pal seriously injured By Ruby P. Silubrico
A RESIDENT of Leon died while his friend was seriously injured after they were shot by unidentified persons Sunday at Barangay Cunsad, Alimodian, Iloilo.
Declared dead Aleosan District Hospital was Romulo Cabana, 34, a resident of Barangay Banagan, Leon. He is reportedly a son of a barangay captain.
Incidentally, Leon's mayor is also named Romulo Cabana although it was not yet confirmed whether the victim is the mayor's relative.
The fatality's friend, Rolando Camique, 33, was in a critical condition at West Visayas State University in Iloilo City as of press time.
PO2 Sandy Jarder of Alimodian Police Station said the victims and their companions just came from a benefit dance at around 1:30 a.m. when they were attacked.
A witness said they heard gunfire and then the victims' shout for help.
Jarder said they are facing a blank wall on the assailants' identities. The scene of the incident was too dark.
However, the investigators surmised one of the victims' companions was carrying a gun, which accidentally went off.
"We still have to summon their four companions to shed light on the incident," Jarder said.
The gun used might be a 12-gauge shotgun, he added.
