Anti-drug agency revalidates syndicates in W. Visayas
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 6 is now revalidating the drug syndicates operating in Western Visayas.

Superintendent Rolen Balquin, PDEA 6 regional director, said seven drug syndicates have been monitored in the region but four were already neutralized, based on the records of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.

Two of the four were the Arandez group, headed by Onel "Dodoy" Arandez, and the Bergantinos group, headed by Dayok Bergantinos, all in the Province of Capiz.

"But we will have to validate this especially those who were reported neutralized," Balquin said.

He said he PDEA 6 could not yet confirm if the group of Jose Kim "Boy" Cuadra was already neutralized because of reports that some of Cuadra's relatives are still dealing drugs in Negros Occidental.

"We are closely monitoring the entry of drugs here and we already have plans and strategies during the Dinagyang festivities," he added.

Drug personalities

The anti-drug agency records show that in 2004, a total of 731 drug personalities were arrested, most of them were in the drug watchlist.

Among the top drug dealers captured were: Arturo Aldas of Siplay City, Negros Occidental; Anthony Gayatao of Bacolod City; Ely Boy Barrera of Sagay City, Negros Occidental; Anthony Cañete of Canlaon, Negros Oriental; Anita Goriona of Iloilo City; Arlyn Villanueva of Guimaras; Susan Tamaño of La Paz, Iloilo City; Eric Reyes of Boracay Island.

Iloilo City's Jonathan "Totot" Nava was also arrested but he was able to escape.
