4 groups get franchise to operate terminals By Jennifer M. Depakakibo
THE City Council's committee on transportation approved Thursday the applications of four groups for franchises to operate terminals in Iloilo City's various perimeter boundaries.
Councilor Jose Espinosa III, committee chairman, said the four complied with the requirements provided in the amended Perimeter Boundary Ordinance (PBO).
Approved were the franchises of Bert Ladrido for a terminal in Tagbak, Jaro; Arnold Bilbao, Hibao-an, Mandurriao; Justina Chua, Ticud, La Paz; and Association of La Paz Jeepney Owners.
The Tagbak and La Paz terminals will serve the northbound public utility buses and jeepneys while the Hibao-an terminal, those plying the Alimodian, Leon and San Miguel routes.
Espinosa said three other applications are still pending.
The committee is trying to ascertain their capabilities to operate terminals, he added.
The applications are for terminals in Baldoza, La Paz; Balantang, Jaro, and Mojon, Arevalo.
Espinosa said the approved applications would be submitted to the City Council for affirmation.
The PBO, to be implemented on February 4, prohibits provincial public utility vehicles from entering the city's main thoroughfares and provides for the establishment of perimeter boundaries where terminals will be situated.
