City's tax collections up
THE City Treasury's tax collection has gone up remarkably during the first two months of 2005 compared to same period last year.
In a comparative tax collection report submitted by City Treasurer Katherine Tingson to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, the increase in tax collections was most noticeable in January this year where revenue gathered from the city's various markets, local businesses, real property and other sources more than surpassed targets and expectations.
Treñas said that the Tingson report bare a January 2005 collection of P138,171,432.17 which was P25-million more than the P111,086,462.85 collected in January 2004.
On the other hand, the tax collection for February 2005 amounted to P47,567,199.14, which is almost P1.5-million more than last year's P46,143,977.97 February collection.
Tingson said that the increase is truly a welcome development in the face of recent economic difficulties in the country.
She said the increased collections would certainly help the City Government pursue its various projects.
The City Treasurer further assured that her office would continue to implement efficient policies and systems to meet, if not exceed, collection targets for 2005.
Meanwhile, Treñas expressed elation over the increases and urged metro taxpayers to continue their support of city government efforts through prompt and proper tax payments.
The mayor also congratulated Tingson and the rest of the treasury personnel for their efficiency, saying it is this same efficiency that has consistently earned various regional awards for the city treasury.
