Company assists in tapping brgys.' economic potentials
* Official says forum intends to shift the paradigm of barangay, municipal and city officials from their pronounced political roles to economics particularly livelihood and enterprise development
A PROGRAM aimed to bring out the barangays' economic potentials will be introduced during a three-day forum set April 13 to 15 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
The Barangay L.I.V.E, or Barangay Livelihood Initiatives and Entrepreneurial Ventures is being spearheaded by Gateway East Incorporated with the support of the Department of Trade and Industry.
Cesar Cueto, managing director of Gateway East Incorporated said the forum intends to shift the paradigm of barangay, municipal and city officials from their pronounced political roles to economics particularly livelihood and enterprise development.
It will also put into action one of President Arroyo's "Ten Point Agenda," particularly employment generation.
Invited to the forum are barangay chairmen, municipal and city officials and those that are involved in livelihood, cooperatives, SME development and the government's poverty reduction programs.
During the forum, participants will be briefed and equipped with the knowledge on SME Development Agenda, Barangay Micro Business Enterprise Law (BMBE) and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, How to Identify Business Opportunities; How to Prepare Proposal for a Winning Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Project, How to Access Financing through the SME Unified Lending Opportunities for National Growth (Sulong) and other government financing programs, How to Access Skills Training Program for the Barangays; Research and Development of a Product that Sells in the Market, One Town-One Product Project, Compensation and Benefits of the Barangay Officials, Botika ng Barangay, Commercially Viable Technologies and Agriculture Competitiveness Enhancement Program.
Actual workshop on Livelihood/ Entrepreneurial Project Identification--"Drawing the Timelines" What do I do in 10 days, 30 days, 3 months, 6 months," will be facilitated by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo Provincial Director Diosdado Cadena Jr. to guide participants on the actual planning of their projects.
Resource speakers from Manila include DTI Assistant Secretary Zenaida Maglaya and Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Director Rhodora Leaño.
Barangay L.I.V.E, successfully launched in Regions 1, 2, 4-A and 4-B, 5, 7, 9, National Capital Region, Cordillera Autonomous Region, 11 and 12, has the support of the DTI 6 under Regional Director Dominic Abad and the Department of Interior and Local Government 6 under Regional Director Evelyn Trompeta.
