Councilor to tackle complaint v. cell site By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
COUNCILOR Perla Zulueta said she would call a committee hearing shortly to tackle the complaint of the residents of Barangay Montinola in Jaro against the construction of the Globe cell site in their area.
Zulueta, who chairs the committee on public services, environmental protection and ecology, received the petition-letter on April 4.
She said the committee hearing would most probably be scheduled next week.
Signed by 186 residents, the letter aired the signatories' opposition to the construction, installation and operation of the cell site near Zone 4 of Barangay Montinola.
In the letter, the residents "strongly demand for the demolition of the cell site because "it was situated in the center of populated area and the cell ferquency produces radiation which is risky and hazardous to health and more so will endanger the life of the residents."
Metro Convergence Incorporated contractor of Globe Telecom Incorporated has been issued with barangay clearances for two sites, Barangay Buhang and Number 10 DB Ledesma Street, Barangay Our Lady of Lourdes. Both barangays are adjacent to Montinola.
