Guv to serve mayor's suspension order By Ruby P. Silubrico
GOVERNOR Niel Tupas said Thursday he will serve Igbaras Mayor Jaime Esmeralda's suspension order once the Office of the Ombudsman hands down its final decision.
Tupas said in a radio interview Thursday the mayor still has 10 days to file a motion for reconsideration.
"If the Ombudsman is still not convinced and will again issue a suspension order, then I will serve it," he said.
Like his lawyer Honorato Sayno, Esmeralda was also advised by Tupas to stay put until the suspension order is final.
The Ombudsman slapped Esmeralda, his private secretary Pio Elumba, and Municipal Treasurer Cynthia Cabañero a 60-day suspension order for their alleged involvement in the implementation of an anomalous road project.
The suspension order, dated March 21, 2005, stemmed from the administrative case for dishonesty and grave misconduct filed against Esmeralda, Elumba and Cabañero by Monsignor Meliton Oso, representing the People's Graftwatch of Iloilo.
A team from the Ombudsman-Visayas, led by Director Virginia Palanca-Santiago, conducted a site inspection at barangays Kinagdan-Mulangan road and Cale-Indaluyon where the supposed P1-million road rehabilitation project was being constructed.
The team, however, did not find any evidence of the sand and gravel delivery for the road repair.
