ILOILO will host the region's athletes during the five-day Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet that will kick off April 17 at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.
Governor Niel Tupas said the City and Provincial Governments together with the Department of Education are now discussing preparations.
The regional meet will gather athletes in elementary and secondary schools from Iloilo, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Roxas City, Capiz, Aklan and Guimaras.
They will see action in basketball, football, swimming, archery, badminton, athletics, baseball, lawn tennis, table tennis chess, volleyball, taekwondo and gymnastics.
Iloilo Schools Superintendent Raymundo Lapating said boxing has been excluded as a result of the death of a high school boxer during the provincial meet last year.
The region's best athletes will represent Western Visayas during the Palarong Pambansa in May, also to be hosted again by the City and Province of Iloilo.
Tupas said they need some P10 million to refurbish the Iloilo Sport Complex for the national games.
