Iloilo City students improve achievement performance
ILOILO City's elementary pupils and high school students improved their performance in the National Achievement Test (NAT) for school year 2004-2005.
The Department of Education's National Education and Research Center gave the tests.
In elementary, from rank 17 last year among the divisions in Western Visayas, with only a total mean percentage score of 37.48 percent, Iloilo City went up to number 7 with a total score of 57.04 percent.
This year, the sixth graders scored 53.93 percent in Mathematics; 58.15 in English; 53.73 in Science; and 58.96 in Filipino; and 60.44 in Hekasi.
While at the bottom rank last year, Iloilo City fifth graders scored only 39.38 in English; 38.26 in Science; and 34.81 in Mathematics.
In high school, Iloilo City senior high school students rated only 36.41 percent last year, ranking last or 17th. This year, however, their ranking improved to number six, with a score of 47.35 percent - Mathematics, 48.16 percent; English, 53.73; Science, 37.44; Filipino, 44.38 percent; and Araling Panlipunan, 53.05.
The previous year's scores were: English, 46.63 percent; Science, 31.28; and Mathematics, 31.31.(LABB)
