Woman meted life sentence for owning, pushing drugs By Ruby P. Silubrico
FOUND guilty for selling and owning drugs, a female drug pusher from Iloilo City was meted a life sentence by the Regional Trial Court Tuesday.
Judge Victor Gelvison of Branch 36 convicted Rowena Mendoza, a resident of Barangay Zamora, Iloilo City for possessing a sachet of shabu.
Mendoza was arrested in a buy-bust operation outside her house conducted by the defunct Regional Special Operations Group 6 in May 12 last year.
After selling a sachet of shabu weighing .07 grams to a poseur-buyer, she attempted to escape but was arrested later. Another sachet of shabu weighing .025 grams was recovered inside her house.
Three charges were filed against her, including owning of drugs paraphernalia, but the case was dismissed.
For possession of illegal drugs, she was sentenced to 12 to 15 years of imprisonment and was ordered to pay P300,000.
She was meted a life imprisonment for drug pushing and was ordered to pay P500,000.
Mendoza is now jailed at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Iloilo City.
