Mayor commends teachers for better test results
ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas commended public school teachers in the city for the improvement in their students' performance in the National Achievement Test (NAT) for school year 2004-2005.
A big factor is the efforts of the teachers, Treñas said. "That's why teachers should spend enough time teaching their students and other school activities should be limited."
In the tests given by the Department of Education's National Education and Research Center in elementary, from rank 17 last year among the divisions in Western Visayas, Iloilo City went up to number 7.
Iloilo City senior high school students ranked only last or 17th. This year, however, their ranking improved to number six.
In elementary, Iloilo City last year had total mean percentage score of only 37.48 percent while this year, 57.04 percent.
In high school, senior high school students rated only 36.41 percent last year. This year, however, they scored 47.35 percent. (LABB)
