Gun belongs to former Mina police chief By Ruby P. Silubrico and Kathy Cinco
A FORMER Chief of Police of the municipality of Mina owns the Beretta .99mm recovered by the Task Group Bakhaw (TGB) from a councilor of Barangay Bakhaw Mandurriao.
Yolito Fuentes, chief of the Supply Accountable Office Logistic Support Service of Camp Crame, revealed this.
Per Camp Crame's records, Inspector Eldred Louie Caseres, former police chief of the municipality of Mina, is the owner of the said gun bearing the serial number G79926Z.
Caseres was assigned in Mina in 1997 until 1998. In 1999, he transferred to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Aviation Security Group (ASG).
It was also reported that in 2003, he resigned and he now resides in Chicago, United States of America.
"Caseres should have reported what happened to his gun," according to Fuentes. "So far, no report was made," he added.
However, a certain Bernadette who introduced herself as Caseres's 'kumare' said that the loss of his gun was blottered with the Molo Police.
Last Saturday, the TGB nabbed a certain Edward Alimin for vagrancy. When the TGB was about to bring Alimin to the Police Precinct 5 (PP5) in Mandurriao, Kgd. Norberto Privindido suddenly intervened by shouting to P03 Ferdinand Jover to free Alimin.
Jover explained to Privindido that Alimin would be facing a vagrancy charge.
Privindido retored, "Ano na? Indi nyo na sia pagdal-a. Barangay kagawad ako diri (What's this? Don't take him. I'm a barangay kagawad here)." He pulled his gun and aimed it at PO3 Jover.
Jover introduced himself as a police but Provindido continued to aim his gun, thus, a grappling ensued between. Jover was able to get Privindido's gun, which bore a PNP logo.
Bail
Privindido has been released from the PP5 last Monday after paying P80,000 bail.
He claims that said gun was only planted by the TGB.
It was learned that Privindido is the brother of a big-time drug pusher in Iloilo, Richard Privindido.
Explosion
Legada clarified that the explosion near the TGB detachment Sunday night was caused by a firecracker, not an improvised explosive as previously reported.
He said that the explosion happened about 50 to 100 meters from the TGB detachment.
"Those who did it probably wanted to sabotage our ongoing operation," Legada said.
More nabbed
Meanwhile, three suspected drug pushers were nabbed and four vagrants on the second day of TGB's operations.
SPO3 Rading Capalla said that on Sunday, Rafael Porras, 23 of Benedicto, Jaro; Dexter Estandarte, 24 of Taft North Mandurriao; and Rally Pueto of Bakhaw, Mandurriao were nabbed for illegal drugs.
Recovered from their possession were sachets of shabu.
They were nabbed while the TGB was conducting a saturation drive in the area at around 1:45 a.m.
On Monday dawn, two were nabbed for vagrancy and two for illegal drugs.
Deterrent
Legada said that the presence of TGB in Barangay Bakhaw became a deterrent to pushers and users of illegal drugs.
"We are conducting a checkpoint during the day and during the night, so they can't enter. They have began to be afraid," he said.
