Army anticipate protests from NPA's legal fronts By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines expects a barrage of protests from what they call as the legal fronts of the communist-terrorist New People's Army.
Major Lyndon Sollesta, public information officer, said this Monday in relation to the capture of five high-ranking officers of the NPA at Barangay Manigawan, Kabankalan City.
Arrested were Moreto Donisio alias Ian, deputy secretary of the regional executive bureau; Marilou Hiponia alias Bekay, Komiteng Rehiyon Negros (KRN) secretary for regional peasant center; Abraham Villanueva alias Tikboy, deputy secretary of the regional preparatory committee; Charity Amaca alias Che, head of the NPA's communication bureau; and Dario Dayanan, an organizer of the Teatro Obero.
Arrested for questioning was Rico Ablasario, driver of the Toyota Tamaraw FX where they were riding; and Jeremy Guilergan.
Recoveries
They were captured after the 12th Infantry Battalion headed by 2Lt. Christopher Belardo, conducted a checkpoint at 8 p.m. Friday.
Recovered inside the group's vehicle were a super .38 pistol, magazine and five rounds of ammunition.
Sollesta said the army also recovered computer files, subversive documents and other pertinent papers.
The documents contained plans of what resembles as a communication tower and information about the Army's Gatuslao and Haba detachments in Candoni, Negros Occidental.
It was learned that the rebels attacked both detachments a week ago.
The suspects are now detained at the Kabankalan City jail.
"The capture of the top leaders will definitely be a big blow to the communist-terrorist in Negros although their legal fronts are expected to march and shout for the innocence of the apprehended personalities. While Karapatan and other human rights advocates will again be visible condemning the military for the deed, even as both groups remain silent on the liquidation of military personnel, attacks to military installations and terror acts on civilian telecommunication stations in Negros Island," Sollesta said.
