LTFRB warns of taxi drivers charging more By Kathy Villalon Cinco
THE Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) warns commuters of taxi drivers who are charging P10 more for its flag-down rate.
LTFRB Regional Director Profirio Clavel issued this warning Monday in the wake of reports that some taxi drivers are asking passengers to add P10 to its regular flag-down rate of P30.
"Whoever charges additional P10 should be reported to the LTFRB or the LTO," he said.
Increase in fare
Clavel also allayed fears that the flag-down rate of taxis in Western Visayas will be pegged at P40 soon.
"It's not true. There has been no petition filed before my office and there are no talks between the taxi operators and my office," he said.
Clavel said in Manila, there is a pending petition to increase the flag-down rate to P45 for the first 800 meters. "However, this petition was addressed to the Central Office of the LTFRB. If approved, it does not cover the provinces because the petitioner is from Metro Manila only," he explained.
Rising gasoline prices
Reports of increasing fare rates were fueled by the increase in petroleum products' prices Monday. This week, the price of unleaded gasoline is now at P37.31 liter while it was only P36.81 per liter last week.
This week, the ordinary gasoline costs P36.81 while last week, it was 50 centavos cheaper; and diesel this week is at P36.66 while it was 50 centavos cheaper last week.
Only the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has not increased. The 11-kilo tank is still at P470.
