Capiz, Roxas join hands for Virgin Mary, Capiceno culture

ROXAS CITY -- The Provincial Government of Capiz and City Government of Roxas are joining hands to pay tribute to the Our lady of the Immaculate Conception, the Capicenos' Patronness, and to showcase Kapisnon culture during the celebration of Sinadya sa Halaran on December 7 to 11.

The province and city have conducted follow-up meetings to firm up the preparations for Capiz's premiere festival, which they have jointly staged for about a decade now to demonstrate the unity of the Capicenos towards the attainment of progress.

Capiz, home province of Senator Manuel A. Roxas, has been considered as the trade and commercial hub of northeastern Panay Island. It is a surplus palay producer and abound with seafood, thus earning for itself the moniker as the "seafood capital of the Philippines."

Provincial Tourism Officer Alfonso Bediones, Jr. said in last Wednesday's meeting of the working committees of the provincial government that the festival will be a joint affair of the province and city.

Presiding over the meeting together with Provincial Administrator Dante Bermejo, Bediones added that after the separate meetings organizing officials from the province and city would sit down together to finalize and fine-tune the activities.

The theme of this year's celebration is "Mary, the Immaculate Conception, Model of Christian Virtues of our Basic Ecclesial Communities."

Gov. Vicente Bermejo, city mayor Antonio Del Rosario and other officials here have thrown their full support to the festival./PR
