Hablon's new look by PJ Aranador
By Bombette G. Marin

RARELY in Iloilo fashion shows can one witness a rich display of hues and designs of the hablon fabric.

Under the artistic talent of acclaimed Ilonggo International Lifestyle Designer PJ Aranador, the 2005 Bamboo Moda fashion show is set to showcase his latest resort wear designs complimented with intricate bamboo accessories.

Last year's Bamboo Moda fashion show, Aranador's eye-popping Asian-inspired hablon pieces stole the spotlight from other fashion shows staged in 2004. His designs are one-of-a-kind and worthy to be covered and made known to the world.

Aranador is committed to the future of Philippine fashion industry through his use of local fabrics.

Long known largely for his use of indigenous native materials such as hablon, patadyong, jusi, pina and raw cotton, this Ilonggo designer is spreading his wings and going global. His shows and events here and abroad have attracted international publicity.

In the Philippines, Aranador's name is synonymous with simplicity and elegance. Arguably among the very few Filipino designers most successful and influential abroad whose craftsmanship with indigenous materials has earned him the nickname, the King of Hablon.

This year, PJ Aranador will once again join forces with DTI, IFMA, IPA, DOST, Tesda, Wesvarrdec, DENR, Iloilo Provincial Government, UPV, SMEDC, ABS-CBN and Robinsons Place Iloilo to promote Iloilo and its indigenous materials.

He will hold a fashion show during the opening of the 2nd Kawayan Market Week at the Fountain Area Robinsons Place Iloilo on November 14, 4 p.m.

As the styles and seasons on the opposite side of the globe change, so do the collections of this prestigious Ilonggo designer, allowing Ilonggo fashionistas to keep in step with the pages of international glossies. A wide variety of hand-woven fabric pieces ensure that there is something to suit your taste---from fashionable daywear ensembles to head-turning evening pieces, all made from hablon.

The Iloilo Provincial Government, the organizer of this fashion show has invited government officials and notable Ilonggos to sashay on the ramp alongside with Iloilo's top ramp mannequins---a must see for everyone.

Participants may look forward to a lively exchange of ideas and interaction with our symposium on bamboo on November 15, Seminar on Bamboo Preservation and Drying on November 16, Training on Bamboo Weaving on November 17, and Demonstration on Bamboo Pickles and Lumpia-Making on November 18.

The 2nd Kawayan Market Week will culminate on November 20.
