RIID to probe ex-police chief of Barotac Nuevo By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division (Riid) would handle the investigation against former Barotac Nuevo Police Chief, Inspector Avelino Natal.
Senior Superintendent Efren Quintos, provincial director of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (Ippo) revealed this Friday.
This came after Natal was relieved from his post after not obeying Quintos' instructions to guard an attempted robbery suspect who happened to be confined in a hospital.
The said suspect was Johnny Balsomo, who escaped while confined at the Western Visayas Medical Center. Balsomo is still at large.
Balsomo was among the three suspects who strafed the car carrying members of the Rubin family while the latter were on their way home to Fiameta Subdivision, Barotac Nuevo.
An unknown shooter hit Balsomo and when he was confined in the hospital, the daughter of Simon Rubin identified him as one of the three men who shot at their car.
Despite the positive identification and Quintos' order, Natal did not assign any policeman to guard Balsomo.
Natal is temporarily assigned at the Ippo.
