Police: Bakhaw shooting incident not over drugs
By Ruby P. Silubrico

ILOILO CITY -- The precinct commander of Police Precinct 5 (PP5), Mandurriao on Friday said that the shooting incident at Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao Thursday night was not over drugs.

Senior Inspector Kim Legada, PP5 commander, said that the victim, Raud Joan Animas, 26, was shot because of a personal grudge against the suspect, Bakhaw councilor Adonis Librel.

"In our initial investigation, the suspect shot the victim after a confrontation ensued between them," Legada said.

However, Legada added that he is still conducting an investigation if there are other motives like drugs "but as of now that's the only motive."

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. when the victim and the suspect accidentally met near the basketball court.

Later, a gunshot was heard and later Animas was seen lying with gunshot wound on his abdomen.

He is now confined at Western Visayas Medical Center.

However, sources said the reason why the suspect shot Animas because the victim is reportedly courting the girlfriend of Libril's lesbian daughter.

Legada confirmed that Animas was once arrested and detained at PP5 because of a scandal.

The police are still conducting a manhunt operation against Librel who remains at large as of presstime.
