Eminent meets Bamboo?
I WROTE a 'hey-I-like-that-song' article about Bamboo last July 14 -- his struggles and his comeback to the local music scene. I earned some good feedbacks, some hate emails (loyalists of Rivermaya) and a ticket to meet him in person.
On December 10, Bamboo will have a party concert at the Iloilo Provicial Capitol Grounds. Thanks to my column, I got a free ticket. "Uhh, they call me Eminent, it is nice to know you and your band...and I like your "Alelujah".
While spending time explaining to the thousands of Bamboo fans who read that controversial column, I met an avid fan of his through text.
I want to take this time out and I hope I am perfectly honest. I am a Bamboo fan now, unlike what I insisted before that I only like Noypi because they blows my head when I feel like "slamming" inside my room alone.
If I get pissed off (by you) and few of his devoted fans that know him from head to foot, I apologize. I am sometimes sloppy with the way I write about your idol. I knew that it was "Awit ng Kabataan", but I had no idea what possessed me that time to wrote the words, "Awit ng Kabataan". My first intention was to write a sincere article of admiration of the very anthemic and poetic Alelujah. But to some extent, I went deeper by touching his personal life. For unavoidable reasons, some stories were maligned. I swear I have followed Bamboo's career even back then when he was the lead vocalist of Rivermaya.
At the same time, I want to thank you for reading my column, through the net or through Sun.Star Iloilo's printed version. Thank you also for the new information about Bamboo or Francisco Mañalac. Now I know that Noypi was actually written by Nathan Azarcon, the band's bassist for then fellow bandmate in Kapatid, Karl Roy (e-mailed by a very reliable source, Eloi Aguilar. Aguilar also claimed that Bamboo did not write songs nor composed for Rivermaya. But, maybe now with his new band.
Anyway, I waited so long to meet a great performing rock act in the country, now starting to be known internationally because of the release of their album outside our shores.
A rapper will meet a rocker? What will happen? Expect a collaboration of minds and collision of different kinds of music.
It is possible indeed for two sides to meet. Parokya ni Edgar just did a rap-rock collaboration in "Bagsakan" with Francis M and Gloc-9. Jay-Z had an album with Linkin Park. The fusion of rap and rock is not new anymore. The moves of famous bands like Limp Bizkit, Korn, and Linkin Park prove it. It's nice to know that Bamboo can rap as well in "Mr. Clay".
I expect a surprise on a rock party. Hey ladies, Bamboo will take his clothes off (assuming). Slam your head in the mosh pit, dawg. See you when Eminent meets Bamboo.
