BIR has new collector By Ruby P. Silubrico
THE new Revenue District Collector (RDO) of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Western Visayas has assumed office after a turnover ceremony held last Thursday after former RDO Ricardo Espiritu was transferred to BIR Pasay, City as part of the BIR's personnel revamp.
Espiritu, who served here for two years, was replaced by Jona Ruth Alonte from BIR Zarraga.
Alonte said she considers her new assignment as a big challenge for her capabilities in collecting tax in Iloilo City.
"It is beyond contestation, a great responsibility and even greater task to pilot a big district than I am accustomed to, with a mission to meet a staggering goal of P3 billion, more or less, in my initial year. With this challenge and prospect upon me, I promise to fully devote my service and commitment to the fulfillment and realization of this vision," Alonte said.
Alonte asked assistance, cooperation, service, and invaluable trust from her personnel for the development and growth of her district.
He appealed to the public to pay their taxes promptly and support the BIR so they can reach their target.
"We should help each other because we have only one country and I assure you to that our door is open to those who need our help. I am happy to serve the people of Iloilo," she added.
"For the media friends, I commit to resolve any public concern as I give new meaning to the word 'good public relations', while I represent my district. I hope that you also recognize our efforts and hard work in the name of public service," Alonte added.
