City mayors to study federalism By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
A TOTAL of 75 mayors, 30 form Mindanao cities already confirmed attendance to the convention of all the city mayors all over the country which will tackle the on the major issues on federalism, its pros and cons January 23 to 24 here.
The two day national conference on federalism was themed "Empowering Cities through Decentralization" in Iloilo City spearheaded by the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) and German Development Cooperation (GTZ).
The forum aims to tackle important issues and educate local leaders on the federal-parliamentary system.
The chief executives will be lead by Mayor Jerry P. Trenas president of the league of the cities of the Philippines (LCP) while German Ambassador Axel Weishaupt will share the federal republic governance practices of his country.
Advisor Herwig Mayer will discuss the trends and prospects of decentralization in the Philippines. Part of the Neda-GTZ assisted Decentralized Planning Structures project (DPSP) which has been conceptualized to guide local government units (LGUs) on how to improve their governance, the forum will also enlighten and clear the its pros and cons of federalism.
DPSP was implemented October 2005 to 2015.
