Fiscal vows to solve Tan case in 45 days
By Jay Dooma Balnig

CHIEF City Prosecutor Efraim Baldago vows to resolve the Tan massacre case within 45 days effective last January 13.

After a subpoena has been sent to the two accused, Archie and Jan Michael Tan (not John as earlier reported), the prosecution service will wait for 10 days for the latter to file their counter affidavit, Baldago said.

After they submit their counter affidavit or answer, the prosecution will conduct a preliminary hearing, wherein the two accused are obliged to surface before the Iloilo City Prosecutor Office.

Baldago and Prosecutor in-charge Jeremy Bionat, refused to furnish the media with other supporting documents attached with the charges sheet filed by the 6th Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Bionat added that they are only selecting the public documents that shall be released to the media because one of the victims is a minor.

The Tan family's lawyer Leonardo Jiz admitted that he was the one who assigned lawyer Nelia Jesusa Gonzales to handle the double murder and parricide cases against the two.

Gonzales is a former associate of Jiz.

As the Department of Justice (DOJ) is working for the issuance of a hold departure order against the suspects, Jiz assured the public that Archie and Jan Michael will not leave the country while the case is on trial.

Meanwhile, Supt. Renato Gumban, 6th CIDG chief, appealed to four taxi drivers who fetched the two suspects during the incident to surface and to give their observation with the suspects' actions while onboard their vehicles.

Gumban claimed that there were four taxicabs that conveyed Archie and Jan Michael after the killing.

One, the taxi driver who conveyed them from their residence to Calzada Bar along Diversion Road, then to Camp Jefferson Disco in Iznart, City Proper, then from Camp Jefferson to a coffee shop in Molo Plaza and going home.

The Tan massacre victims will be laid to rest on January 18 in Forest Lake in Mandurriao.
