Mabilog: Panay Power has no fuel shortage By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
CITY Councilor Jed Patrick Mabilog confirmed that Panay Power Corporation (PPC), power provider of the Panay Electric Company Inc. (Peco), does not suffer any fuel shortage.
Mabilog said this during the opening of the Jaro Agro Industrial Fair last Saturday.
Mabilog said this was one of his observations during the ERC hearing held in Cebu last January 19.
He added that the only threat PPC is facing is if Pilipinas Shell, the fuel provider of PPC stops delivery. However, this has not happened even after January 19, the date that PPC said it would run out of fuel.
He said if indeed Pilipinas Shell stops its delivery to PPC, the National Power Corporation (NPC) guaranteed that it will provide fuel to PPC.
He also confirmed that PPC owes Pilipinas Shell some P600 million and this may a reason for the company to halt its delivery.
Mabilog also voiced concern on National Power Corporation's (Napocor) ability to match PPC's fuel demand.
No alternative source of power
Mabilog said he observed that the city has no alternative source of power besides PPC.
"Napocor Vice President Arman Lapus confirmed they have no power to provide for our consumption as of the moment. Peco has not interconnected with the NPC yet," he said.
Having been in the hearing, Mabilog said that ERC's decision after 15 days might be in favor of the petitioner.
"It's very clear that we have no alternative source of power," he said.
Mabilog was one of the City Councilors designated by Mayor Jerry Trenas to attend the ERC hearing over the Petition of Peco in amending its Power Purchase Agreement with PPC.
