Council allows Trenas' to release P100T for Leyte victims By Lory Ann B. Bilbao
LEAGUE of Cities in the Philippines (LCP) President and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Trenas's request to extend financial assistance to the victims of the landslide in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte was granted by the City Council Wednesday during its regular session.
The request was to give the him (Trenas) the authority to extend financial assistance for relief operation in the amount of P100,000 chargeable against the five percent calamity fund of the City Government.
A resolution was passed in fulfillment of the request during the regular session Wednesday.
The victims can avail of relief the City Government provided soonest after the effectivity of the resolution.
Trenas very recently encouraged his co-city mayors to help.
Some 1,000 residents died while almost all properties including their homes were buried in the mud starting February 17 when the said landslide happened.
As of February 28, there were already 152 bodies recovered, 972 remained missing and feared dead while around 3,300 residents were still at evacuation centers.
