Planned move of vendors to Muelle Loney hit By Kathy Villalon Cinco
THE resolution of City Councilor Jed Patrick Mabilog, which requires vendors to transfer to the Muelle Loney area during evenings, has drawn some flak from the latter.
The transfer is in line with the City Government's plan to hold a night market in the said area.
In an interview over Aksyon Radyo Wednesday, Barangay Capt. Maria Luisa Froilan of Muelle Loney, said several vendors in Arroyo, Yulo, Solis, Aduana, St. Paul's area and Valeria, approached her and complained about the resolution.
Froilan herself did not agree with the resolution, she said, but "we can't do anything about it because that's what the City Government wants."
Froilan was among those who attended the City Council sessions, which tackled the holding of a Night Market in the Muelle Loney area.
She added that the vendors who will be affected would soon send a petition to the City Government.
The vendors were reportedly concerned that they might lose their income if they will be transferred to the said area.
In an interview with Sun.Star Iloilo last year, City Councilor Merci Drilon Garcia revealed that a night market could boost the city's economy.
The said night market was inspired by those of other Asian countries like Hong Kong's open air markets which attract local folks and tourists.
