Nursing grads want case to sleep for a while
By Jay Dooma Balnig

AFTER experiencing some bombardments, the petitioners from West Negros College Tuesday filed their Manifestation and Motion before the Regional Trial Court Branch 22 seeking the court's approval to hold the Mandamus case in abeyance.

Lawyer Nelia Gonzales filed Tuesday the said manifestation and motion praying for the court to exclude the 25 petitioners from the original 145 graduates of WNC whose names are being withheld by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on the ground of alleged academic overloading.

What’s your opinion on Arroyo’s emergency rule? Post comment.

The 25 petitioners were not able to take the December 2005 Nursing Board Exam thus said petition is now moot and academic.

Gonzales also prayed before the honorable court to hold in abeyance their Mandamus case because coordination with proper authorities is being made so that the petitioners who passed the exam can take their professional oath as nurses.

Another issue to be held in abeyance is the pending motion to cite PRC for indirect contempt for their failure to submit examination records.

The court is set to hear the said issue March 10.

As of today, board passers from the 605 graduates of WNC whose results are being withheld could not take their oath and can't have their Nurse PRC License as PRC Chairperson Leonor Rosero issued a memorandum directing the regional offices of PRC not to issue any license to them pending the resolution of the issue on academic overload.

To note, WNC has a total of 811 examinees and 589 successfully passed or a 72.63 percent out of 52 percent in the national passing percentage last December 2005's exam.
