4-year-old wows art aficionados By Kathy Villalon Cinco
SO YOUNG yet so talented.
Eouia Aum "Om" Dueñas is not your typical young artist. In fact, she's way too young to be creating fabulous art pieces but she does.
As early as four years old, Om has been trained by her father, artist Guijo Dueñas to follow his footsteps. And she learned fast. She had her first exhibit at that age.
Now, at age six, Om held her second exhibit, "My Dreams" at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol last March 1.
Most of what she featured there were images she encountered in her dreams four months after her first exhibit.
Guijo related to the guests that he and his wife Jyh Ming would always read bedtime stories to their little pumpkin. They advised her that whatever she encountered in her dreams and those stories, she should paint.
Young and old artists alike trooped to the Capitol to give Om support during that exhibit. There's Tapati, who hosted the program and sang the national anthem with her powerful and magnificent voice; Ein Dominic Gange, Om's classmate who rendered a song for her and gave her a bouquet of flowers; Jim Tan Nuevo-Jaikrishna, a sculptor and performance artist who gave an inspirational message and performance art; and other classmates who sang with her.
Also present was Provincial Administrator who exalted Om for her creative genius.
"It's amazing how a four-year-old could be able to translate her ideas into art," he said.
Mejorada also reminded those present that the intelligence of an individual is not measured on how often we pass our subjects in school. So, he encouraged teachers and parents to give attention to a person's creative side. Through such support, children are allowed to discover themselves.
Others present were Om's proud parents, grandmother Thelma Duenas, Dr. Judith Ahrens, a Peace Corps volunteer and business advisor of Balay Dalangpan who was the keynote speaker; Imelda Gamba, Sped-Isec principal Elizabeth Orquiola, Metrobank 2005 Grand Pruze Awardee in Sculpture Florence Cinco and Department of Tourism 6 Director Edwin Trompeta.
