18 WV cops face charges for drug case bungling
EIGHTEEN policemen in Western Visayas are facing criminal and administrative charges for allegedly bungling the drug cases against several drug personalities in various courts in the region for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (Pdea) in Western Visayas acted as complainant.
Named respondents were police inspectors Rey Fuentes and Bonifer Gotas; SPOIs Maximo Catedrilla and Marlon Ganzon; PO3 Edmund Castillo, Stephen Siblag, PO2s Joffer Cabural, Richard Delasa, Alberto Precia Jr., Edmund Alvanzas, Alfonso Precia, and Aurelio Porras; POIs Wilfredo Hofileña, Carlito Guion, Emmanuel Decripito and Henry Evoltorio, and Jovito Quiatchon, Rommel Jacildo.
Two of them are police officials. Guion is from the Antique Police Provincial Office while Gotas is the police chief of Sipalay Police Station in Negros.
Pdea director Rolen Balquin said the respondents were all prosecution witnesses.
Gotas reportedly failed to attend the court hearing of drug suspect Teddy Garcia in Bacolod City and as a result was charged by the Pdea on June 28, 2005. His case is now being submitted for resolution.
Guion on the other hand along with Precia and Quiatchon were charged on May 27, 2005 for failure to attend the court hearing against Ronnie Carl Davis.
Precia and Quiatchon also face the same charges on the drug case against Melanie Meletante and Michael Celiz Wilson.
Precia and Siblag failed to attend the hearing against Richard Elloranda while Castillo and Alavansas were charged on November 23, 2005 for failure to attend the hearing Edni Jimena and Dande Sobremente.
Catedrilla and Porras also failed to attend the hearing before the Regional Trial Court branch 25 under Judge Evelyn Salao against Wilbert and Ralph Cartagena.
Facing the same charges under the sala of Salao are Ganzon, Cabural, Hofileña, and Evoltorio for failure to attend the court hearing against Ruben Baylon.
Fuentes, chief of Janiuay Police Station, and Decrepito are facing charges for not attending the hearing against Aurora Silao.
The case against Delasa was dismissed for lack of merit in relation of the case against drug pusher Edel Escalon.
Balquin said he has already recommended Precia for dismissal from the service.
"Our investigation concerning this case will be continued as long as there's a complaint and evidences, we will not hesitate to file charges against them," Balquin said.
If proven guilty they shall suffer the penalty of imprisonment ranging from 12 years to 20 years without prejudice to his or her prosecution under the pertinent provisions of the Revised Penal Code. (RPS with a report from Sun.Star Bacolod)
