17 ship crew nab for illegal fishing By Ruby P. Silubrico
SEVENTEEN crew members of a fishing boat were arrested after four tons of large fishes, believed to be caught through dynamite fishing, were recovered from their possession at the Iloilo Fishing Port Complex in Tanza Baybay, Iloilo City.
The catch was believed to have been harvested from the Kalayaan Group of Islands near Palawan.
The joint elements of Philippine Navy based at Guimaras Naval Station, Philippine Coastguard and City Agriculturist raided the fishing boat where four tons of "lison" fishes and other assorted fishes were loaded at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Prior to their arrest, the raiding team received information that the fishes came from illegal fishing and that they immediately conducted an operation.
Arrested for violation of the Anti-fishing Law were Cerilo Ruben, the owner and operator, from North Baluarte, Molo, Alberto Dubalac of Tanza Baybay, Allan Sagang, Bobby Sagang, Crisanto Sagang, all of Mabolo-Delagdo, Iloilo City, Ronnie Aureta, Marvin Aguilar, Edcel Espinosa, Romer Tapia, Bryan Fria, Benigno Sagang, Delmar Ruben, Ricky Magsayong, Christopher Imtes, Salem Imtes, Loreto Nasilla and Sanson Garcia of Baluarte, Molo.
They are now detained at the cell of Police Precinct 1.
