Exec wants Treñas v. Malabor in 2007 polls
THE Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) chief wants a Treñas-Malabor bout for the 2007 election.
In a radio interview, LWUA Administrator Lorenzo "Larry" Jamora, a pioneer and avid supporter of former mayor Mansueto Malabor, said he wants the former mayor to face incumbent mayor, Jerry Treñas in the 2007 mayoral race.
Malabor has reportedly signified his interest to run for mayor in Iloilo City.
Jamora was branded as the man behind Malabor's political consultants ever since he became mayor and until his term ended in 2001.
Treñas lost to Malabor in the 1998 mayoral race when Treñas was running under the banner of ousted President Joseph Estrada.
Malabor meanwhile was reelected under the administration party, the Lakas NUCD under the banner of then presidentiable, House Speaker Jose De Venecia.
After Malabor's term expired, Jamora supported the candidacy of Treñas until the latter's installation in office.
Malabor is one of the undefeated political figures in Iloilo city since he run as city councilor, vice mayor, and mayor.
But during the 2005 election, Malabor run for congressman against Congressman Raul Gonzalez Jr.
Gonzalez won by a slim margin of around 4,000 votes.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr., in a radio interview, said that if Malabor runs, "the problem would be Mayor Treñas."
"But of course, I will continue supporting Treñas," he said. (JDB/KVC)
