The parade will emanate from Roxas City Plaza and pass through the major thoroughfares of the city before winding up at the 8-hectare stadium where the opening program will be held.

About 3,000 athletes, officials and other members of athletic delegations will participate in the five-day event, which is a schools-based sports program of the Department of Education.

The province is hosting the event which was last hosted by Capiz in 1998 together with the Division of Capiz, Roxas City government and Division of Roxas City.

Governor Vicente Bermejo said the province is proud to host the prestigious sports event and welcomed the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental to the activity that aims not only to promote competitive athletics but good friendship and camaraderie among athletes.

DepEd Regional Director Victoriano Tirol, Jr. and Governors Sally Zaldivar Perez of Antique, JC Rahman Nava of Guimaras and Niel D. Tupas of Iloilo, Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco and at least two members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negro Occ. together with their respective schools division superintendents have confirmed their attendance at the WVRAA opening.

Gov. Carlito Marquez of Aklan has yet to send word about his attendance. Nevertheless, schools division officials of the province are coming to lead their delegation.

City mayor Antonio Del Rosario and city schools division head Dr. Jesse Gomez have joined Bermejo in welcoming the visiting contingents from other Western Visayas provinces.

A fellowship program awaits all delegates later in the evening at the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center. Aside from the basketball game opener after the opening activities, all other competitions will be held starting Friday until the closing day on March 20. (PIA-JSC)
