Lisao: The busy month of March By Dominador L. Lisao, Ed. D. Paradigm shift
MARCH is the busiest month for pupils, teachers as well as for school administrators for there are so many activities to be conducted. Firstly, we have the National Achievement Test for Grade VI last March 7, 2006; secondly, we will hold the Elementary Day culminating program on March 24th; and finally, the preparation of forms for graduating pupils and pre-graduation-related activities.
The schedule is so hectic that you need to have an extra energy to accomplish all these activities. Agree or disagree?

Leganes Elementary School will hold it annual Elementary Day program on Friday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at the Leganes Covered Gym. It will kick off with a foot parade around the municipality. The highlight of this activity is the coronation of the 2006 Mr. & Miss Elementary Day in the persons of Juirgen Sodusta and Aya Marie Hermonio, respectively. Both are Grade IV-2 pupils of Mrs. Mercedita D. Soldevilla, adviser.
A total of P100,000.00 was raised from this fund raising activity. Net proceeds will be used for the improvement of the school facilities as well as in putting up of different projects for the use of the schoolchildren.
After ten (10) months of hard work and sacrifices, our Grade VI pupils are now ready to face another challenge of their life. As scheduled by the Division of Iloilo, the graduating Class of 2006 will have their commencement exercises this coming Monday, April 3, 2006 at 8:00 o'clock in the morning at Leganes Covered Gym. This year's theme focuses on "Crossing the Thresholds: From Learning the Basics to Learning for Life."
This is the most awaited time for the proud parents to see their children receiving their certificates on stage. For the graduating pupils, this will be a beginning of another chapter of their lives, for secondary education awaits them; new learning skills to be learned to prepare them for a better future.

The DepEd stressed that this year's graduation activities should be made simple in line with the government's austerity program.
Here are some policies on the collection of fees for graduation rules as stated in DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2005.
Public schools are not allowed to collect any graduation fees or any kind of contribution for graduation rules; PTA/PTCAs may solicit voluntary contributions from their members for graduation ceremonies and celebrations. Teachers and principals should not be involved in the collection of these contributions. Use of such contribution for graduation shall be coordinated with and properly reported to the PTA/PTCAs members; no non-academic project shall be imposed as a requirement for graduation; no extravagant special attire or extra ordinary venue for the ceremonies should be required; and contributions for the annual yearbook shall likewise be on a voluntary basis.
