Crime against properties tops Jaro's problem By Ruby P. Silubrico
POLICE Precinct 3 Commander Khasmir Disomangcop revealed Thursday that crime against properties is the top problem in his area.
This problem usually occurs in subdivisions because of the deficiency of guards and barangay officials, making it easy for robbers to enter their targetted houses.
He said that normally, homeowners leave their house unattended, no guards to check the entry and exit of people in the neighborhood, poorly lighted surroundings and no perimeter fence.
"If there are enough guards or barangay officials in the subdivisions who will roam around and check all vehicles entering especially during night time, such crimes would probably be avoided," Disomangcop said.
Despite the augmentation force from the Iloilo City Mobile Group in Tabuc Suba, the police could not manage and sustain police visibility because of their limited personnel and the vast area covered. "Though we conduct police visibility, we can't stay longer in the place because we only have limited personnel."
In Jaro alone, there are 67 subdivisions, the biggest area among the six districts of Iloilo City.
Disomangcop added that some of homeowners associations are not active and vigilant.
On the other hand, Disomangcop said that there's no organized Akyat Bahay Gang "but we are trying to focus on a certain group to know the scope of their operation."
With this, Disomangcop is appealing to the homeowners to cooperate and be responsible with their valuables and do not leave their house unattended.
