Bacchus downs Iloilo's Warriors
BACCHUS/Harbour Centre-Manila won on the road hammering out a an 86-75 victory over winless Iloilo City Warriors, Saturday night in the 2006 Guerrero Brandy-NBC national championship at the packed University of San Agustin gym here.
Magnum Membrere, Nani Epondulan and Jayson Cuevas combined for 12 of the Manile?os' 15 points in the pay-off period to ward off the City Warriors' last-ditch rally. Behind the hot-shooting of Membrere and Cuevas, the visitors raced to a 15-point lead, 29-14.
They erected a 23-point lead in the third canto but Iloilo whipped up a storm as they came within four in the final canto.
The City Warriors of IBL led by its president Snook Divinagracia and Mayor Jerry Tre?as, opened the third quarter with an 8-0 blast behind explosive scorer Eldrin Senierez and last threatened in the final seven minutes, 72-68.
But the visitors handcuffed Senierez in the payoff period as the prolific guard went scoreless in the final 10 minutes.
"The team is starting to jell now. I hope we're going to ride on this momentum after the Holy Week break," Bacchus/Harbour Centre coach Lawrence Chongson.
Bacchus/Harbour Centre-Manila improved to 2-2 in the northern division of the tournament also supported by Panasonic, Sulpicio Lines, Nature's Spring Mineral Water, Regent Foods, Firefly Lightings, Spring Cooking Oil, Molten and official cable carrier Prime Channel.
Cuevas led the visitors with 23 points while Membrere and Epondulan chipped in 18 points each.
Senierez led all scorers with 26 points, all scored in the first three quarters, as the City Warriors dropped to its second straight loss.
