Feeds producer alarmed, conducts preventive measures
By Kristine Palomar

SAN Miguel Corporation and Five S Milling had undergone three preventive measures to cease the harm caused by weevils from their products to the residents of the three barangays in La Paz district.

Congratulations to the graduates of 2006! Post your graduation experiences and greetings here.

San Miguel is the producer of B Meg Feeds and Five S Milling is its miller.

City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Noel C. Hechanova said the feeds producer had reportedly fumigated the warehouse of San Miguel where the said insects originated.

They had also sealed the products to prevent further perfusion. As secondary prevention they had also screened the windows and other open parts of the building where the said product was produced.

Weevils or "hukaw" in the dialect were found evident in B MEG feeds in Barangays Mansaya, Bo. Obrero and Luboc, La Paz.

Residents of the three villages said it was evident since last week. It was reportedly rampant during early evenings and has caused ailments among the residents of the said places.

Five S Milling Corporation had reportedly bought old stocks of raw materials (corn with weevils) for feed production.

The period of storage also served as the catalyst for multiplication of the insects.

The weevils later spread out to the nearest barangay where the warehouse of the feeds company was situated.

Recently the company was reportedly doing a transfer of the stocks with weevils from La Paz to Pavia. These stocks were subjected for immediate milling.

On Tuesday almost 90 percent of the stocks were already transferred and it was expected to attain the 100 percent transfer of stocks Wednesday.

According to the barangay chiefs of the infected areas, they observed that the weevils' number were somehow controlled as of the moment.
