More personnel augment city police vs crooks
By Ruby P. Silubrico

THE Police Regional Office in Western Visayas has tasked some organic units in the region to augment the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) against pickpockets, snatchers and the Budol-budol gang in preparation for the opening of classes next month.

Isagani Cuevas, deputy regional director for operation (DRDO), said Sunday the regional office has already tasked some line units to serve as augmentation teams because they anticipate that crooks will take advantage of student's belongings.

The units are the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) Regional Intelligence Office (RIO), Criminal Investigation and Detective Group (CIDG) and some operation officers.

"We anticipate these things (crimes) to happen and this is an opportunity for the crooks to victimize new students and shoppers. But, our intelligence would be utilized to safeguard the community," Cuevas said.

On the other hand, Cuevas admitted that they received information that several persons are forming a group to commit crimes here. "But they are not part of an organized group, unlike the one that's operating in the central part of Iloilo," Cuevas said.

"Some persons will take advantage (of the opening of classes) but we are ready to preempt their operation. We have personnel in civilian clothes who roam around the city to help Task Force Lampitaw," Cuevas added.

Cuevas said that the police's concern is the Budol-budol Gang that is expected to strike anytime.

"I warned the public to be aware (of them and their tactics) and not to talk to strangers so they won't be victimized," he said.
