11 sued for neophyte’s death due to hazing By Joel E. Capundan
ROXAS CITY –- Eleven fraternity members believed to be behind the death of hazing victim were charged with homicide and violation of Anti-Hazing Law at the provincial prosecutor’s office Wednesday.
Cipriano Querol Jr., Capiz Police provincial director, identified the suspects as Christy Baldisimo Honrado, Sylvestry Bellosillo, Phil Ralp Patricio, Dinkee Mandar, Joel Bellosillo, Archie Denolo, Christina Paula Fabros, Dexter Alvarez, Ramir Bula, Steve Hondrado and a certain Deneo.
All are members of the Alpha Phi-Omega (APO) Fraternity and Sorority who were believed to be responsible for the death of Jan Angelo Dollete, a neophyte, during an initiation or hazing held in Sitio Busay, Poblacion, Sapian, Capiz last May 6.
Dollete, 21, a 5th year Engineering student of Capiz State University (Capsu) Roxas City Main Campus and resident of Milibili Height Subdivision here was pronounced dead on arrival at Mambusao District Hospital last May 7. He was left there by unidentified persons.
Last May 13, Querol formed Task Force Dollete to investigate the case.
Querol said that there are two principal witnesses -- PO2 Teodorico Belonio Lacson, member of the Mambusao Police Station and Roque Molato Isiderio, 45, an engineer employed as draftsman at the Office of the Municipal Engineer of Mambusao, Capiz.
They are both members of APO who volunteered to reveal what transpired during the hazing.
Lacson said that he was informed by APO Sorority-Alumnae, Carlette Caldeo in one restaurant in Roxas City that the final initiation rites will be held on May 6 at around 5:30 p.m. in Sapian.
He said that he contacted Christy Baldisimo Honrado as to the location of the hazing he was told to proceed to Honrado’s residence in Sitio Busay, Poblacion, Sapian, Capiz together with Isiderio.
Upon arrival at the Honrado residence, they were offered with drinks while they heard some guitar playing and videoke at the place.
They also met several APO members like Sylvester Bellosillo, a certain Deneo and Phel Ralp Patricio who introduced themselves as the master initiators.
According to him, the group proceeded to the hilly portion where the initiation rites were held but opted to be left behind with Lady Christy and her husband Steve.
He added that they observed there were four neophytes -- Dollete together with two males and a female -- and all were wearing adult diapers.
Not a standard procedure
In their sworn statements, the witnesses stated that the masters inflicted physical punishment and they cautioned Lady Christy to stop it because such was against the APO’s Standard Training Procedure. They also asked her to stop the other officers from doing so, but their pleas were ignored.
When they were sleeping at 10 p.m., Christy Baldisimo woke them because something has happened to one of the neophytes. They heard Baldisimo say, “Jan pag-batu, Jan (Jan, hold on, Jan).
Lacson said that he checked the victim’s pulse and told them to bring him to the hospital.
The statement of Lacson was corroborated by Isiderio who gave an account of what transpired in the final initiation rites. Their statements were supported by Sheila Oadan, 21 of Mahanlud, Sapian, Capiz.
Earlier, Jesus Dollete, father of the victim sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding his son’s case.
The Anti-Hazing Law provides for a penalty of life imprisonment if the victim dies as result of fraternity hazing.
