By Ruby P. Silubrico

FOUR suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) were arrested Tuesday by personnel of the Lambunao Police Station at Barangay Bonbon, Lambunao, Iloilo.

Ignacio Losbañes, chief of the Bonbon police station, identified the four, including two women, as Agi, Mawie, Maribel, and Joy.

Losbañes said in a radio interview that they were arrested at around 3 p.m. inside the house of their friend, a certain Melyn.

He revealed that he received information from his assets and village officials who saw that four persons who are not from their area, arrived since Monday afternoon.

The police responded and invited them for interrogation but no firearms or any illegal items recovered from their possession.

"We invited them for interrogation because of their presence in the place and our community was alarmed," Losbañes said.

The assets told the police that the four persons arrived Monday at around 2 p.m. hours after the burning of a Fortune Tobacco delivery truck at Taranghauan, Lambunao.

The delivery truck driven by Isidro Te was loaded with cigarettes, was parked at Pasig Road when three persons poked a gun at them and ordered them to Taranghauan. Upon arrival, 20 persons were waiting for them. They introduced themselves as members of the NPA and said that they were after the truck. The group torched the truck.

Te and his companion were not harmed, while the damages incurred by the company for the incident was P850,000.

According to the Philippine Army, the company may have failed to pay revolutionary tax, thus the rebels torched the truck.
