DEPARTMENT of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Angelo T. Reyes visited the province Thursday, as part of his regional field inspection and interfacing with field officials.

Reyes was the keynote speaker during the first National Conference of Tricycle Transportation and Development during the Vice Mayor's League Meeting at Iloilo Grand Hotel slated on June 28-30.

He met with the tricycle operators to discuss and update recent DENR policies especially those covered by RA 8749 or the Clean Air Act of 1989.

The move would at least resolve and iron out issues concerning RA 8749 especially those affecting tricycle drivers and operators.

Among other major activities he undertook during his stay were the Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) signing of programs and projects implemented in the different parts of the region with co-management with the LGUs: speaker during the annual convention of Pollution Control Association of the Philippines at Punta Villa; Site visit and briefing about Maasin Watershed Maasin.

Secretary Reyes took over this February 15 from outgoing Secretary Michael T. Defensor and set his guiding principles in the attainment of a cleaner, safer and greener environment.

Among his major concerns were enhanced environment in achieving the goal of improving the quality of every Filipino who has less in life: strengthening and improving the enforcement activities by creating a situation where probability of detection is high probability of apprehension is higher and probability of prosecution is even higher, implementation of environmental programs should be devolved to the local government by extensive mobilization not only as implementers but intimately involved; and a comprehensive, integrated, collaborative and symbiotic working relations among all concerned entities.
