WESTERN Visayas Police Regional Director Doroteo Reyes II said Thursday they would be conducting an inventory of all issued government firearms to the police personnel in the region.

Reyes's order came after four Ilonggo police personnel assigned at Sto. Niño Police Station, South Cotabato were caught and now under investigation for pawning their firearms.

Facing charges for the act are Police Officer 1 Judy Baradas of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo who pawned five caliber .45 pistol; his elder brother Senior Police Officer 3 Jerry Barradas who pawned six .9mm pistol, Senior Police Officer 3 Roy Fayonan of Sara, Iloilo who pawned his caliber 357; Police Officer 2 Roger Sta. They pawned their firearms at Tupi Pawnshop, South Cotabato for P3,000 for short firearms and P5,000 for the M16 armalite. They five policemen were relieved from their post.

Their act was discovered after the owner of the pawnshop, who happens to be a retired military man, had a misunderstanding with one of the five personnel thus, he reported this to the National Bureau of Investigation based in Cotabato.

The NBI has recovered the pawned firearms and will use these as evidence in filing charges against the erring cops.

Meanwhile, Reyes warned his men not to do the same, otherwise, they'll be dismissed from the service.

He has already instructed his city and provincial directors to count the guns of their men and to monitor if they are still in their possession.

He added that they would also conduct an inventory of firearms under the custody of the court as evidence, seized and captured firearms.

"Those who will be caught without their issued firearms would be accountable," Reyes said.
